Women's International Week

Women's International Week

Empowered women, empower women.

Our leading purpose is to empower all women across the globe one swimsuit at a time, by creating a community of women to empower and support one another.

This International Women's day, we asked 8 of our sisters to talk about what they are working towards, their biggest assets, inspirations and what they love most about being apart of Sisterly.

HOULIE DUQUE

What are you working towards right now?

I’m working on being the best mother I can be for Gio. I’ve set a goal for myself to reach the masses using my gift for teaching and the love I have for my son, so I can empower parents with HomeschoolToGo to raise their children integrally and develop their potential. But even this goal is a derivation of my desire to be the best mother I can be for him. I have to keep reminding myself to be present in the moment as opposed to letting the stress and the chase take my focus away from what matters most to me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I hope to have my business off the ground, to be cultivating a global community, and to start homeschooling Gio, since he will be ready for grade 1.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my friends, and other fellow entrepreneurs whom I have recently attracted into my life. What inspires me about them is their ability to create a reality based on a desire and to keep that desire burning for the love of the becoming rather than the need for an immediate outcome.

What is your biggest asset?

I think my biggest asset is my passion and my love for my son Gio. It is what fuels me to keep going even after things fall apart, to put myself out there knowing I’m not perfect, and to show up everyday no matter what.

What made you want to become a part of Sisterly?

I love being a part of sisterly because the brand exudes authenticity and love for the feminine, which I find to be sacred. Women are the portal of life for all humans walking on earth and it makes me sad that we have been divided and underestimated throughout time. Sisterly promotes love For Mother Nature, for each other in all of our forms and sizes and I love it. Thank you so much for bringing me into the sisterhood. The beautiful sisters behind the brand Liv, and Isabelle are a perfect representation of these traits. 😍❤️

LINDA DUFFETT-LEGER (AKA MOM)

What are you working towards right now?

As as nurse researcher, I have been busy working with teams of researchers developing virtual supports to help address the mental health needs of vulnerable families and first responders impacted by the pandemic. I have been trying to work towards having a better work life balance during my sabbatical ... it’s not going so well! Luna, our pandemic puppy, reminds me when it’s time to go for a walk 🐾

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I see myself taking more time for me, like traveling to remote destinations, learning how to scuba dive, and living out of a backpack like I did in my 20s. But maybe stay in nicer hotels this time!! ✈️

What inspires you?

My beautiful daughters inspire me everyday. I am blessed to have three talented daughters who are kind, creative and hard working. Their commitment to diversity, inclusivity and sustainability makes me proud to be their mom 🥰

What is your biggest asset?

I don’t often think about this, but I guess my biggest asset is my resiliency and persistence...wait that’s two things!! Learning from my mistakes and being courageous enough to try again are the biggest lessons I have learned as a woman. I believe I have passed these qualities on to my daughters ❤️❤️❤️

What made you want to become a part of Sisterly?

Not to take anything away from my daughters and all their hard work, but without me Sisterly Swim would not exist 😘

We love you mom

ONYE NYOKU

What are you working towards right now?

I’m in my final semester of my final year of my undergraduate degree! So I’m currently just working towards graduating with good marks. I also just recently got into law school which is exciting!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself as a hard working human rights lawyer and dog mom!

What inspires you?

I draw inspiration from those I’m surrounded by each and every day! It’s so important to surround yourself with people who constantly encourage you to better yourself. People who are courageous, dedicated, passionate, confident. All of these qualities and more are so inspiring to me!

What is your biggest asset?

I think my biggest asset is that I’m very ambitious and I’m not afraid of hard work.

What made you want to become a part of Sisterly?

What first attracted me to Sisterly was how inclusive they were! They’re a brand that really genuinely cares about their customers and takes customer reviews very seriously. Everything is handmade and they pay such close attention to every little detail. They’re a brand that embodies all of the things that I feel strongly about! Of course, it makes it 100x better that they’re sustainable too!

RACHEL ANTHONY

What are you working towards right now?

I am working towards more self love and appreciation. Also furthering my career as a hairstylist. Spending my time with friends and family as best as I can during a pandemic!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I’m hoping to be a wife and mother to a beautiful family and maybe starting my own hair business with my man 🤍

What inspires you?

WOMEN INSPIRE ME. Every women has a story worth telling and the world needs to hear them more!!

What is your biggest asset?

I believe that my greatest asset is lifting others up and trying my best to promote self love and self care not only to others but myself. I believe that no matter who you are, shape, size or colour everyone is beautiful and makes the world unique.

What made you want to become a part of Sisterly?

I wanted to be a part of Sisterly Swimwear because, not only do they make cute and sustainable handmade swimwear, they are also very inclusive with every walk of life and make every person feel comfortable & confident to wear any kind of swimwear to the beach or pool. You don’t have to have a “summer body” to be apart of Sisterly.

BRIGITTE COMEAU

What are you working towards right now?

Right now I’m in my last semester of a business degree at the University of New Brunswick. After I graduate I plan to focus on growing my business @onestopsustainabilityshop as well as continuing my job with Sisterly to create new pieces and promoting sustainability in fashion.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

It's so hard to predict the future especially considering the ongoing pandemic, but in 5 years I will be 26. Hopefully by then I’ll have a stable job working in the fashion industry - for me this could mean being a creative director, public relations specialist, fashion designer, or owning my own brand. Regardless of where I end up I want to make sure I am working with a brand that doesn’t cause harm to the planet.

What inspires you?

My main inspiration for getting involved in fashion a few years ago was realizing how harmful this industry truly is. I wanted to promote change and sustainability within the industry even if it was at a small scale, which is why I started my business. Seeing all the progress that has been made in recent years with so many consumers changing their habits, as well as all the new sustainable brands that are popping up everywhere is what continues to inspire me.

What is your biggest asset?

I would say my biggest asset is my determination. If I really want something I’m not afraid to put in a lot of effort and countless hours to reach my goal, and I surely never give up. I think this is a trait that I developed from playing sports growing up but now that I’m no longer an athlete it continues to benefit me. Even just looking back at the past year it's crazy how much I’ve improved my sewing skills, and this would never have been possible without my persistence.

What made you want to become a part of Sisterly?

I’m extremely passionate about design and sewing and have always wanted experience in this field apart from my own projects. When I saw that Sisterly was hiring it seemed like a perfect fit as we carry the same values - from being made ethically & locally, size inclusive, and eco friendly, it just made sense! I truly can’t think of a better brand to work with!
